This first month was a transition in my relationships, education, and personal growth. This past month, my classes took off and hitting the ground running with me in the background catching up! (LOL). But in all seriousness, the first month of graduate school hasn't been bad. I've been reflecting on my decision for this program and I definitely feel affirmed that I chose the right school for my degree. Not to say that my other choice wouldn't have been a good decision, but I feel more focused on the direction of my career path in Higher Education. The course load is fairly light, in my opinion, but I'm lucky that one of courses doesn't require too much reading or I would have a different perspective about grad school thus far. Ultimately, I am pretty content with how the transition is going. This Women's and Gender Studies programs has the same supportive and care as the one in my undergrad, which makes me feel really good about the space. The office has such great staff and administration and the program continues to grow and change that I am honored to be a part of the experience. I can remember August of last year that I was determined that I was going to graduate school for Social Psychology, only to realize after studying for the GRE that I don't have the passion for Psychology that I did for Women's and Gender Studies. It was an epiphany when I looked into WGS programs and realized how these program are considered about the content of your writing, your ideas and your research experience rather than your GPA and GRE scores. It was the most amazing feeling of relief knowing that I would be able to study the topic that I love and continue to grow in my feminism. It was wonderful.
This month of October has a busier schedule with more presentations and papers due, but it's not as hectic as undergrad with midterms, papers, and presentation smashed together in a matter of weeks. It seems like it the calm before the storm right now, but I feel comfortable with these upcoming assignments. I'm definitely excited for any new assignments and opportunities that are going to show up during this month.
