This past Sunday, I was determined to have a self care day. So I cleaned my room and whatnot, took a shower and hopped on the bus to South Congress. There's this book store called South Congress Books and it's the most beautiful place for a bibliophile. The store is pretty small but the walls are covered in tall bookcases that touch the ceiling that has every and any book imaginable; it would realistically take a maybe 3 to 4 visits for you to see each book cover to cover if you spend a good 2 to 3 hours in the shop. But it's a truly relaxing place. I first when to this place looking for books as a present for someone else but I was awe struck by plethora of books that I looked for myself for a little bit and I was determined to go back. So, heading back to South Congress, I forgot about the ACL (Austin City Limits) festival going on... So there were a lot more people in the area than normal but it was fine.

But I knew which book I wanted before I came into the store, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. It was one of those books I read or more skimmed in high school but I didn't understand the purpose and worth of that book; so I thought it would be a good book to have whenever I have time to pleasure read. After leaving the bookstore, I thought to myself, "Why not explore South Congress a little more?" I didn't go too in-depth in the area but just wandering up the street and found a store called, "Mi Casa Gallery," which was filling from top to bottom with beautiful Mexican decors, pictures, jewelry and other little trinkets. I enjoyed all of the Frida Kahlo and lotería images and textiles. So I couldn't leave completely empty handed and bought a Frida Kahlo textile that now sits on my night stand. But it was nice just exploring the area of mostly shops (which I have to back and explore) and restaurants. After my small bout of exploration, I headed back to campus after the cashier told me about the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the Harry Ransom, which made me change my mind about going to the Blanton Art Museum (which I will explore eventually). The Mexican art exhibit was beautiful, colorful, and interesting to read and observe; it was amazing to look at all of the paintings, pictures, textiles and manuscripts. It was a good end to my day because at that point, I was tiring out! It was wonderful to see Frida's painting again in Texas after I had seen her paintings at the MoMA in NYC. They were beautiful and I was awe struck by them. Overall, it was a pretty good self care day. I have more pictures of the exhibit below!
