Aspiration, Obstacle, Pathforward

Last night, I was honored to go to a gala for American Short Fiction to watch a dear friend and colleague of mine receive an award for her short fiction piece. It was beautiful because she was received with the Emerging Star Award and it was so important in that moment especially because the space was predominately White. Her presence as a WOC and her wonderfully crafted story was so amazing and just made me joyful in that moment.

During the gala, there was tarot card booth in the corner called, "Typewriter Tarot," (which is something everyone should check out on Facebook and Instagram) and she read my cards. She asked me "Past, Present, Future," or "Aspiration, Obstacle, Path forward," and I decided to try something new, resulting in my decision of "Aspiration, Obstacle, and Path forward." In this reading, it resonated deeply within me as I began my stay in Austin. In the picture, you can see Page of Pentacles as my Aspiration, The Hermit as my Obstacle, and The Sun as my Path forward. So, here's a paraphrasing of what I remembered my reading as. As the Page of Pentacles, I have the ability to find my calling by reaching out and finding my community and finding my connects within graduate school. (Remember this is paraphrasing so I'm making this more applicable for me). But my obstacle is The Hermit, she explained that if I wanted to achieve my aspirations, that I have to stop being a hermit and go out and experience the world (or networking and becoming more involved) and not shying away from these opportunities. So my path forward, the reader explains that if I my path forward (The Sun) will allow me to meet my aspirations, through networking, connecting and meeting my end goal, is by being my true authentic self or The Sun. The Sun is carefree, living its full life and she said that in any situation that I am in, to be radiant. This reading was probably the most affirmation explanation I have heard. It was a little sign in this moment to push myself and reach out and meet others, especially if I know no one else in the room. It was a beautiful resolution that I wanted to share! And also, if you love reading your horoscopes, I would definitely recommend you have your tarot card read too!
